UNI Sets One Record, Ties Another in Win Over Creighton

Omaha, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team tied one school record and set another in a 3-1 win over Creighton on Saturday night. Game scores were 30-24, 30-27, 33-35 and 30-17.
UNI had 28 total team blocks on the evening which tied the school record, previously set in 1985 against Southern Illinois. The Panthers also set a new school mark with 52 block assists, bettering the previous best of 46 against Illinois State in 1999. Three UNI players reached double-figures in blocks, with Trista Humpal (New Hampton, Iowa) leading the way with a career-high 15. Danielle Brazda (Omaha, Neb.) had 13 blocks and Stephanie Germann (LeMars, Iowa) added 10.
Sophomore outside hitter Laura Rowen (Hansell, Iowa) led UNI offensively with 17 kills, while adding 15 digs. Freshman Ashten Stelken (Manchester, Iowa) had 14 kills for the Panthers. Patricia Dietz (Tripoli, Iowa) led UNI in digs with 19.
Tonight's win improved UNI's all-time record against Creighton to 24-0. With the victory, UNI improves to 8-4 overall, 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Creighton falls to 5-6, 0-2 in MVC play. The Panthers next play on Friday, Sept. 23 in the West Gym when they host Southern Illinois. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
