
Alabama Takes 3-0 Win

Milwaukee, Wis. - Alabama swept the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team, 3-0, Saturday morning in the UW-Milwaukee Invitational. Game scores were 30-26, 35-33 and 30-13.
Laura Rowen (Hansell, Iowa) led UNI with 11 kills, and Stephanie May (Dubuque, Iowa) had a team-high 15 digs. Alabama was led by Bridget Fuentez who had 16 kills.
The first game was tight throughout, with 11 ties and eight lead changes. Alabama took the lead for good, 19-18. UNI pulled within one point as late as 26-25, but Fuentez had three of her eight first-game kills in the final few points to give Alabama a 30-26 win. The Panthers had 5.5 team blocks in the game.
Alabama went up two games to none with a 35-33 win in the second game. UNI held a 26-19 edge before the Crimson Tide went on a 7-0 run to even the score. The Panthers then scored three straight points to go up 29-26, but Alabama responded with three in a row of its own to tie the score at 29-all.
The Crimson tide controlled the third game from the start, hitting .444 (15-3-27) as a team, while UNI hit -.207 (5-11-29).
With the win, Alabama improves to 7-1, while UNI falls to 5-3. The Panthers face Toledo at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon in its final match of the UW-Milwaukee Invitational.
