Four Panther seniors were honored before the start of the match with a video tribute. It was the last time Jeff Harrison, Eric Hauan, Josh Lawrenz and Sean Stender will compete in the West Gym.
One of the seniors, Jeff Harrison scored a pin with one second remaining in the first period. Sean Stender also scored a major decision win to end his West Gym career.
In his last match in the West Gym, Jeff Harrison took on Josh Peterson. The 149 pound senior went out with a bang, pinning the Falcon with one second remaining in the first period.
After a Falcon injury timeout early in the first period, Chris Bitetto slowly gained ground on his opponent, scoring a 10-1 major decision with riding time at the 157 weight class.
Filling in for the injured Josh Lawrenz, lost by pin in 48 seconds.
Eric Hauan won by forfeit at 174.
Getting back into dual action was 184 pound redshirt freshman Alex Dolly who battled Luke Lefever to a 3-2 first period score. Dolly scored the last point on an escape with one second remaining in the period. The second period was packed with action, ending the period leading 7-5. This set up a frenetic third period, with Dolly winning 8-6.
Senior Sean Stender also competed in his last match in the West Gym against Brendon McLean. The two battled back and forth, waiting for their chance to shoot and score big points; Stender was the one to find and take the chances, winning by major decision with riding time, 18-5.
With Michael Shedek still out of the lineup, Jeff Knoll again started at heavyweight against Falcon Trey McLean. The two spent the first five minutes feeling each other out, ending in a 0-0 tie headed into the third period. Knoll scored the first points of the match with
Chris Helgeson won by forfeit at 125. Panther Jeremy Meyer took on Matt McDiarmid at 133. The two battled fiercely, going back and forth the entire match; Meyer prevailed 7-2 with riding time.
The last match of the day featured Panther C.J. Ettleson and Falcon Matt Crippes at 141. Ettelson came out on fire, aggressive right from the first whistle. Ettelson scored two three-point near falls and two two-point near fall. He won by a technical fall, 15-0 in three minutes.
The Panthers travel to Fresno, Calif. for the West Regional on March 5th.
