Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa won its fourth straight game with a 76-53 win over Florida A&M Saturday night at the UNI-Dome. The Panthers improved to 7-1 on the season while the Rattlers fell to 3-5.
Senior guard Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) had his second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Stout also had two assists, two steals and four blocked shots.
UNI led the whole way, jumping to a quick 15-4 lead over the first four minutes of the game. Stout started the game off with a three-pointer, and Jacobson added back-to-back treys later during that early run.
After FAMU pulled to within 16-10, the Panthers once again used the three-ball to go on a big run. Adam Viet (Ackley, Iowa), John Little (Peoria, Ill.), Brooks McKowen (Fairbank, Iowa) and Jacobson each hit a trey over the next five minutes as UNI opened a 30-13 lead. UNI held a 37-24 lead at halftime, holding FAMU to just 28.8 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes of play. The Panthers extended their lead to as many as 28 points in the second half and cruised to the win.
For the second straight game, UNI found its shooting stroke from three-point range. The Panthers connected on 11-of-23 from downtown on the night, including hitting 7-of-13 in the first half. Last Saturday night (Dec. 10), UNI was 14-for-28 from behind the arc, setting a UNI-Dome record for threes made in a game.
UNI held a decisive edge in rebounding (42-28), and forced 18 FAMU turnovers on the night. The win was UNI's 11th straight at home and 14th straight at the UNI-Dome against a non-conference opponent.
The Panthers next game is Monday (Dec. 19) when they travel to face LSU in Baton Rouge, La. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
