The University of Northern Iowa held Indiana State to just 48 points and 37 percent shooting, in posting a 64-48 win over the Sycamores Sunday afternoon at the Hulman Center.
Junior guard Ben Jacobson led the way with 18 points for UNI, and topped the 1,000 point plateau for his career with his first basket in the second half. Jacobson, who ended the game with 1,003 points, became the 27th player in Panther history to reach the century mark in scoring.
The Panthers broke open a close game with a 14-2 run over the final five minutes of the first half. Jacobson and Chris Foster each had five points during that run which helped UNI to a 35-23 edge at intermission.
UNI kept the pressure on the Sycamores in the opening moments of the second half. The Panthers went on an 18-5 run to open a 53-28 advantage to effectively seal the game. The final margin of 16 points was as close as the Sycamores would get the rest of the way.
Foster, Grant Stout and Eric Coleman each had 12 points for UNI, while Stout recorded his sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Panthers' next game is set for Wednesday, Jan. 12 when Southwest Missouri State comes to the UNI-Dome for a 7:05 p.m. tipoff.
