Tom Schellhardt
- Induction:
- 2013
Schellhardt served as the vice president of Administration and Financial Services from 2002 until his retirement in 2011.Â
During this period his responsibilities included oversight for Intercollegiate Athletics, business operations, financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, human resource services, public safety, facility planning and physical plant operations.
During a time of dwindling financial resources when state funding to UNI was reduced eight times, Schellhardt worked closely with the athletic director, coaches and UNI Foundation officials to identify and obtain external funding to Intercollegiate Athletics. Â
He was instrumental in creating strong partnerships with the Cedar Valley community, including the cities of Cedar Falls and Waterloo, and the Cedar Falls school district, to help fund the McLeod Center, improve outdoor recreational facilities and provide facilities for women’s softball and women’s soccer.Â
His accomplishments were significant at UNI, including leading capital improvements such as new buildings (McLeod Center 2006, Business and Community Services 2006, Human Performance Center 2007, Innovative Teaching and Technology Center 2008, Multimodal Transportation Center in 2010) and building renovations (Begeman Hall 2007 and Sabin Hall 2011). His extensive contributions and leadership abilities extended across campus and within the Cedar Valley community.Â
Schellhardt hired Troy Dannen as UNI’s director of athletics in 2008 and also participated in the hiring of several successful UNI head coaches including Ben Jacobson, Tanya Warren, Dan Steele, Doug Schwab, Ryan Jacobs and James Price.
