Norm Jespersen

An Iowa State Teachers College basketball player under coach Hon Nordly, Norm "Jess" Jespersen played on three North Central Conference Championship teams, from 1947 to 1950.
He was a four-year letterman in the sport and had many honors bestowed on him during his years here. He was a three-time, first-team all-conference selection and was selected to the North Central Conference all-decade (1950-59) all-star team. He was the first player in UNI history to score over 1,000 career points, with a final career total of 1,099.
He was also selected the 1949-50 UNI College Athlete of the Year, an honor based on athletics, scholastics and sportsmanship. He also played on the 1948 and 1949 teams which played in the National N.A.I.B. Basketball Tournament. He was drafted by the Waterloo Hawks. In 1990, he retired after 4 years in education. Jespersen was a classroom teacher and coach for 15 years and a high school principal for 25 years. He spent 18 years at his alma mater, Cedar Falls High School, where he was principal when he retired.Â
