Jill Fjelstul was a four-year starter on the Panther golf team. She received a business/health undergraduate degree, as well as a master's in physical education, from UNI.
She was a four-year golfer as a prep in Decorah, Iowa, when she led her team to two consecutive state championships, finishing third individually her junior year and fifth her senior year. After high school, Fjelstul became the first scholarshiped golfer in UNI's history, and was a two-time team captain. She was also the top student-athlete fund raiser for the 1983-84 season. At the time of her induction, she held UNI's record for the best 18 hole score, as well as being a member of teams that held the best 18, 36 and 54 hole scores in school history.
After graduation, she joined the LPGA Teaching and Club Division, becoming UNI's head women's golf coach in 1988. She also taught in the UNI HPELS program, gaining more research experience than any other teacher in her field. Her research was published in no less than 10 publications.
After leaving UNI, she was named head golf coach at Central Florida in and had a very successful run, twice being named Trans Atlantic Athletic Conference coach of the year, with a pair of conference championships. Her other accolades include founding a golf school called "Personal Best Golf Schools", which caters to almost every category of golfer, including special-needs golfers.
