Howard Pigg

Howard Dale Pigg scored 1,041 points in three seasons at Iowa State Teachers College and was named all-conference in 1952 and 1955. Pigg, a native of Colfax, Iowa, started as a sophomore and was the squad's third-leading scorer.
An Old Gold Popularity winner after the 1951-52 season, he led the team and conference in scoring as a junior with 356 points. He was voted all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore and first team all-conference his junior campaign. He received his bachelorÕs degree from ISTC (1955) and enlisted in the U.S. Army his senior year. An All-American with Fort Bragg's Army cage team in 1954, he was selected to the All-Third Army Tournament Team.
A 1949 graduate of Colfax (Iowa) High School, he played football land basketball and was an all-conference selection in both sports as a senior. A four-sport athlete, he earned a total of 10 letters in high school. He began his coaching career as head boys' and girls' basketball coach at Fonda (Iowa) School (1955-56). He also coached baseball and track.
Pigg then spent his last years coaching at Cedar Valley Junior High School in Rinard, Iowa. Three, he served as the boys and girls basketball coach and was the school's principal. He continued his education administrator's role as principal in Tripoli, Iowa (1969-61), and later was named superintendent of Tripoli Community Schools (1961-66). He went on to serve as the assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools in Dubuque.
