Dr. Raymond Schlicher

A retired Dean Emeritus in Continuing Education, Raymond Schlicher has a long association with the University of Northern Iowa in both academic and athletic settings. He received his bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1935 prior to attending the University of Iowa where he earned his master's (1939) and doctoral (1949) degrees.
A highly respected education, he served as the Panthers' Faculty Representative to the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NCIAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from 1961 to 1976. He was a 1974 recipient of the NCIAC Meritorious Service Award. Schlicher came to UNI in 1949 as an assistant professor in education. He then served as Director of the College Placement Bureau (1951-58) prior to being named Director of Extension and Placement in 1958. He became Director of Field (1962) and was appointed Dean of Extension and Continuing Education in 1975. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1980.
The 1930 graudate of Centerville (Iowa) High School served on UNI's Athletic Board (1954-76), Graduate Council (1965-68), Educational Policies Commission (1954-57) and the State Extension Council. Schlicher has been President of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club (1953), Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce (1975-76) and the Cedar Falls Chapter of the America Red Cross (1969). He has been recognized for his efforts as recipient of the UNI Alumni Service Award (1968), Administrator of the Year Award (1980), Cedar Falls Mayor's Volunteer Performance Award (1984) ad an Iowan Wesleyan College Distinguished Alumni Award (1987)
A life-long educator and administrator, he taught classes at several Iowa high schools and served as Senior Personnel Counselor at UNI. He has had several articles published at the state and national level and complete research on the quality of education in Iowa high schools.
