Bob Beach began his association with the University of Northern Iowa in 1947 when he enrolled as a student at the Iowa State Teacher’s College pursing a degree in business education. Beach has continued to maintain strong ties to the University for the past 62 years.
After graduating from what was then Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1951, Beach started a career that would take him to eventually becoming the owner and manager of University Book and Supply, the main bookstore for the University of Northern Iowa. Beach’s business education degree suited his career and helped him earn the Jaycee’s Boss of the Year award in 1969. In 1984 he earned national recognition for his business management skills, after being named National Association of College Stores Manager of the Year.Â
Beach not only continued to maintain his strong ties to UNI, but has also built strong bonds with the Cedar Valley business community, serving as President of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce from 1969-1970. Beach was also Century Club Board of Directors member and served as president from 1973-1974.Â
In 1972, Beach was awarded the UNI Alumni service award. During this same time period, Beach was working with the Alumni State Chairman Centennial Fund for the UNI-Dome.Â
Beach continued his work fundraising for his alma mater, eventually becoming a charter member of the UNI Athletic Club, and also serving as UNI Athletic Club president.Â
Not only did Beach focus his fundraising efforts on athletics, but he also was a member of the UNI Foundation for 20 years, serving as foundation president for 10 years.Â
In 1992, the Panthers honored Beach by naming him the grand marshall of the UNI Homecoming Parade.
