Bill Dotson

A two-time wrestling All-American, Bill Dotson won both the Division I and Division II titles in 1963, the only UNI wrestler to accomplish such a feat. He also was a Division I runner-up in 1962 and went undefeated in dual meets three straight years. He was named UNI's Most Valuable Wrestler, captain, was voted UNI's Most Outstanding Athlete in 1963 and was a winner of the Purple and Old Gold Award. Since his graduation in 1963, Dotson has devoted his life to teaching and coaching.
He coached and taught physical education at the University of New Mexico, Northern Michigan University, and Western State College at the college level; and Charles City High School, Waterloo East High School, Dubuque Senior High School and Cedar Falls High School in the high school ranks. Dotson was named the Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1986 and has authored a book entitled "Concepts of Coaching Wrestling."
He has officiated in all NCAA divisions and has participated in clinics at the University of Iowa, Iowa State, Arizona, Wisconsin and Kent State. He was named to the Iowa High School Hall of Fame in 1986. He was a graduate of Waterloo East High School where he was a letterman football, wrestling and baseball.
