McShane Tabbed as MVFC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - The competitiveness in the McShane household of Freeport, Illinois, is heating up.

A week after Western Illinois' senior returner Steve McShane earned Missouri Valley Special Teams Player of the Week honors, his brother Deion, a freshman receiver at UNI, picked up MVFC Newcomer of the Week honors after he caught seven passes, including a touchdown and racked up 117 yards in Saturday's 44-0 win over Hampton (Va.).

Deion's eye-popping day began on the first drive when he caught a 36-yard pass from Eli Dunne to the 19-yard line which would set up a 12-yard touchdown pass to Elias Nissen.

His 12-yard touchdown reception was a highlight-reel grab that he made between two defenders. The touchdown with 4:10 left in the third quarter, put UNI up 41-0 and was the last reception of the day.

The Panthers play against Indiana State in Terre Haute Thursday. UNI returns home on Oct. 6 to host North Dakota State. Tickets for all remaining home games are available here.
