David Harris Letter to UNI Campus

UNI Students and Community,
We are approaching the end of the 2017-18 UNI Athletics year and we'd like to take the time to thank you for your support of the Panthers.
By attending games, watching on TV and ESPN3 or by following our teams on social media, you have helped make a difference to our student-athletes, coaches and teams. Having the university community rallying around athletics can make us all Panther Proud!
The performances this past year by our women's teams were remarkable. We had second-place finishes in the Missouri Valley Conference in cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, golf and tennis. The second-place tallies in soccer, golf and tennis tied for the best finishes in MVC history for those three programs.
Our Panther wrestling team joined the Big 12 Conference and made a big splash with a second-place finish that featured a pair of league crowns from 174-pounder Taylor Lujan and 184-pounder Drew Foster. The Panther wrestling team also saw 197-pounder Jacob Holschlag earn All-America status at the NCAA Championship meet in Cleveland, Ohio.
This year also saw three of our squads earn postseason berths. The football team earned its 19th appearance in the FCS playoffs and recorded a dominating 46-7 victory over Monmouth in the opening round in the UNI-Dome. The Panther volleyball squad reached the NCAA Tournament for the 21st time and advanced to the second round with a triumph over the Louisville Cardinals. Our women's basketball team earned a bid into the WNIT – marking the 11th time that the Panthers have played in a postseason tournament in program history.
Contributions to the Panther Scholarship Club in 2017 allowed for the fundraising goal to be reached with a total of 1,695 donors and a cash record of $1.52 million during the 2017 year. The record is a 12 percent increase over the previous high set in 2015 and an increase of 14 percent from last year's total. It was also a record for a total combined cash and gift-in-kind of $2,014,141 raised along with a record of new PSC members which was 208. Our Panther Scholarship Club will continue to grow with support from our fans and donors.
As we head into the summer months, we look forward to the 2018-19 school year and the excitement that awaits. One of the things to look to this summer is the finalized strategic plan that will cover the next five years of Panther athletics.
Summer also brings excitement of the next school year and looking forward to another spectacular fall sports season featuring football, volleyball, soccer and cross country. All four of those sported top-two league finishes this past year. With your continued support we can continue to be at the top.
We wish you the best over the summer months and look forward to your return to campus this August. Go Panthers!
Sincerely,
University of Northern Iowa Director of Athletics
David Harris
