UNI Track & Field's Smith Earns Auto Bid to Eugene

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI track and field's Jacob Smith earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championships set in Eugene, Oregon.
Smith's personal best of 50.13 took the win in heat No. 3 and was the seventh-best time in the West Preliminary.
Connor Ham earned an automatic bid to the quarterfinals of the 110-meter hurdles at the West Preliminary with a time of 14.20 seconds. .
Brette Correy's collegiate career ended in the 800-meter quarterfinals. She finished 15th in a time of 2 minutes, 6.76 seconds.
Isaac Holtz finished 18th in discus with a throw of 53.34 meters. Tom Yezek finished 35th in the discus with a throw of 50.65 meters.
The 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships started Thursday and finish Saturday in Sacramento, California.
The top 12 competitors out of the East and West Prelims will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Championships held June 6-9, 2018, in Eugene, Oregon.

The men's squad qualified the 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams. Evan Long, Sven Van den Bergh, Corey Hertz, Bryce Newcomb, Isaiah Trousil, Tayshaun Cooper, Frost, Smith and Ham will team up to fill those spots.
