UNI Releases 2018 Football Schedule

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – With the announcement of the University of Northern Iowa's 2018 football schedule on Monday, Panther fans will have plenty of marquee matchups to look forward to this fall.
The 2018 schedule features five home games at the UNI-Dome, with the Big South's newest member, Hampton (9/22) opening the home slate, before Missouri Valley Football Conference foes North Dakota State (10/6), South Dakota State (10/20), Illinois State (11/3) and Missouri State (11/17) journey to Cedar Falls.
Joining Hampton on the non-conference slate will be two noteworthy road contests against Montana (9/1) and Iowa (9/15). The 2018 MVFC slate opens in Terre Haute on Thursday night, with a matchup against Indiana State (9/27), while South Dakota (10/13), Western Illinois (10/27) and Youngstown State (11/10) round out the rest of the Valley road slate.
UNI's season opens with a trip to Missoula, Montana, on Saturday, Sept. 1, with weather slightly improved for 2018's journey to Montana, as it marks the Panthers' first regular-season road game against the Grizzlies since 1981. The 2011, 2001 and 1994 matchups all came late in the year during the playoffs.
After a bye week, the Panthers will make the short trip to Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Sat., Sept. 15 as UNI and Iowa renew its rivalry on the gridiron. The meeting will be the first between the Panthers and Hawkeyes since 2014's nail-biter, that saw UNI fall narrowly to Iowa, 31-23.
UNI will open the home slate on Sat., Sept. 22 against Hampton. The meeting between the two squads will be the first in the series. After a short week, the Panthers will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a Thursday night MVFC opener against Indiana State on Sept. 27.
October features a trio of Dakota foes, as the Panthers kick off the month with a home matchup against North Dakota State on Sat., Oct. 6, which will serve as Band Day. The Panthers pack their bags for Vermillion on Sat., Oct 13 as UNI travels to South Dakota seeking its eighth win over the Coyotes in the last 10 meetings.
After facing the Jackrabbits twice on the road in 2017, the Panthers welcome South Dakota State to the UNI-Dome for Homecoming on Sat., Oct. 20. The month of October closes out on the road, with UNI facing Western Illinois on Sat., Oct. 27.
Following a brief absence from the UNI football schedule, Illinois State returns to the slate with the Redbirds visiting Cedar Falls for Family Weekend on Sat., Nov. 3. The Panthers make their final regular-season road trip on Sat., Nov. 10 as UNI travels east to Youngstown State. UNI caps the 2018 regular season at home the following week, with a Senior Day matchup against Missouri State on Sat., Nov. 17.
