CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – University of Northern Iowa head women's basketball coach Tanya Warren announced the addition of Elgin, Illinois native Alyssa Iverson to the 2018-19 roster on Friday, bolstering an already impressive signing class for the Panthers.
Iverson joins the Cedar Falls trio of Kiana Barney, Kam Finley and Cynthia Wolf for the 2018-19 signing class, as the quartet will give Panther fans a lot to be excited about come fall.
"I couldn't be more excited to have Alyssa join our Panther family," Warren said. "She is a true point guard, which gives us immediate depth at that position. Alyssa is a very good ball handler with the ability to create for herself and her teammates. She is outstanding in transition, a lot of good things happen with the ball in her hands."
A two-time All-State First Team honoree from Harvest Christian Academy (Elgin, Illinois), Iverson was a scoring machine in her four years with the Lions. The guard nearly eclipsed the 2,000-point mark at HCA, while averaging 15.5 points per contest and starting in all but one game in her four seasons at HCA. Iverson also collected First Team All-Conference honors three times, the league's MVP title twice and was named the Player of the Year by the Elgin Courier-News in 2018.
As a senior, Iverson led the Lions to a 27-5 record overall and a trip to the Class 2A superregional, where HCA lost to eventual champion Chicago Marshall. The 5-foot-7 point guard led her squad in scoring last season, with 18.6 points per contest while also adding 4.5 steals and 4.0 assists per game. Iverson shot 40 percent from the floor, while knocking down 66 shots from the 3-point line.
Iverson helped HCA reach the state tournament for the first time as a junior, pacing the Lions with a career-high 19.5 points per game in 2016-17. Iverson also added 4.4 steals and 4.2 assists per contest while playing primarily as a shooting guard.
In addition to her time with HCA, Iverson also played AAU basketball for Mac Irvin Fire in Chicago.
