Panthers Fall Short Against Illinois State

WATERLOO, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team could not get momentum going as they fell 5-2 to Illinois State.

Claudia Toledo defeated Jana Kustkova 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles spot to claim the first victory for the Panthers.

Three of the singles matches went to a third set to decide a victor. Valentina Caro defeated Laura Fitzgerald in the No. 5 singles match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Harri Proudfoot fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to Ivon Mihalea in the No. 4 spot. Savanna Hunt was defeated by Valerija Gercar 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) in the No. 6 spot.

Gisela Kemper battled in the No. 1 singles spot, falling 7-6, 6-4 to Veronika Golanova. Reghan Lynch was defeated by Jelena Karla Vujicic 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.

Prior to today's match, seniors Gisela Kemper and Savanna Hunt were honored.

The Panthers travel to Missouri next weekend for matches against Missouri State and UMKC.
