NFF RELEASE
IRVING, TEXAS – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Wednesday the members of the 2018 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, with University of Northern Iowa student-athletes Lee Carhart and Jared Farley making the list.
The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. A total of 1,251 players from 302 schools qualified for membership in the society's 12th year, both new single-year records in the history of the program.
Qualifications for membership include:
- Being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA College or university.
- Achieving a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout entire course of undergraduate study.
- Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Carhart started every game for UNI at center in 2017, on his way to All-MVFC Second Team honors, before collecting MVFC All-Academic Second Team laurels. Carhart graduated UNI in December with a degree in health promotion.
Farley finished his Panther career with 313 total tackles, which ranks as the eighth-most all-time at UNI. Farley collected All-MVFC First Team and MVFC All-Academic Team Honorable Mention honors earlier this season, before becoming a five-time All-American in 2017. Farley graduated UNI in December with a degree in business management.
The 2018 Panthers will return 26 players who made starts on offense and defense for UNI in 2017. Last year's squad earned an 8-5 record and defeated three Top-10 foes on its way to the program's 19th FCS Playoff berth. The Panthers also succeeded on the postseason award's stage, after seven different players earned All-American honors which was the most since 2007.
UP NEXT
UNI will take part in its seventh practice of the spring Wednesday afternoon, as the Panthers prepare their spring game on April 27 at 6 p.m.
