UNI's March Student-Athletes of Month

The University of Northern Iowa department of athletics has announced its March 2018 Student-Athletes of the Month sponsored by Transamerica as voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
This month's honorees are Brette Correy (Epworth, Iowa), Megan Maahs (Epworth, Iowa), Max Thomsen (La Porte City, Iowa) and Sven Van Den Bergh (Blaasveld, Antwerp, Belgium).
Brette Correy - Track and FieldÂ
Won two conference crowns at the 2018 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, winning in the women's distance medley and the 800-meter races. Correy was also honored with the MVC's Elite 17 Award, becoming the first Panther to win the academic laurel twice for the women. Outside of the MVC Indoor Championships,the senior also posted a 2:06.21 at the Parent's Day Invite 800-meter in Minnesota on Feb. 17, earning the best time in the MVC and ranking second all-time at UNI. Brette is an Elementary and Early Childhood Education double major with a minor in Literacy Education. She has been a consistent member of the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Megan Maahs - Women's Basketball
Averaged 11.7 points per contest during the month of February, to earn five games in double-figures. Also posted two double-doubles to go along with her league-leading 12 for the season, which is the most at UNI since Alex Cook earned 13 in 2003-04. Led the UNI women's basketball team to a 5-2 record overall. Posted a career-high 18 points against Illinois State on Feb. 23 to lead the Panthers past the Redbirds. Megan is a Biology and Health Promotion double major with an emphasis in Women's Health. She has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Max Thomsen - Wrestling
Sophomore Max Thomsen grabbed two top-20 wins in February with decisions over No. 14 Boo Lewallen of Oklahoma State and No. 20 Jarrett Degen of Iowa State. He took Lewallen to sudden victory, getting the 3-1 win. The 7-5 win over Degen helped secure a team win over Iowa State. Max is a Business Administration major with and emphasis in Management. He has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor and Dean's list.
Sven Van Den Bergh - Track and FieldÂ
Posted three second-place showings in the 4x400 for the Panther track and field team. His time of 3:14.18 at the 2018 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships propelled him to all-conference honors, while his time of 3:11.14 at the Frank Sevigne Invite on Feb. 24 ranks second in the conference. Sven is a Movement and Exercise Science and Athletic Training double major and was on the Dean's list his first semester at UNI.
