Howell, Kirkpatrick Earn MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team Honors

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After a successful season on the court and in the classroom for the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team, junior Ellie Howell and senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick earned Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
The honor for Howell is her second as a Panther, while Kirkpatrick earns the distinction for the first time at UNI. Both Howell and Kirkpatrick are graduate students at UNI, studying for their MBAs.
Howell, who owns a 4.00 GPA in UNI's graduate program, has averaged 10.0 points this season for the Panthers. Howell has posted 17 games in double-figures, with 13 of those coming in MVC action. Howell is leading the team with 10.9 points per contest in league action. Prior to the 2017-18 season, Howell was named to the Preseason All-MVC First Team.
Kirkpatrick, who owns a 3.83 GPA in UNI's graduate program, leads the team with 10.7 points this year. Kirkpatrick also leads the team in made 3-pointers, while pacing the squad with 3.7 assists per game. Kirkpatrick's best performance came against Kansas State on Dec. 21, as the senior scored 24 points off the bench and came within one made 3-pointer of tying the school record to help UNI defeat the Wildcats. Kirkpatrick's effort earned her MVC Player of the Week laurels.
The conference office will release the All-MVC team selections and specialty awards on Wednesday.
