Maahs Named MVC Player of the Week

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After posting back-to-back double-doubles for the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team this past weekend, sophomore Megan Maahs was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The MVC Player of the Week honor for Maahs is the first of her career, while the weekly laurel marks her first since earning MVC Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 12, 2016. Overall, the MVC weekly award is UNI's second of the season, with senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick earning UNI's first after her stellar performance against Kansas State on Dec. 21, 2017.
Maahs led UNI in both wins over the weekend, as the Panthers swept Valparaiso and Loyola on the road to close out the regular season. Maahs earned back-to-back double-doubles in the two victories, to add to her league-best 12 for the season. Maahs' 12 double-doubles are the most at UNI since Alex Cook earned 13 in 2003-04.
Against the Crusaders, Maahs turned in a 13-point, 13-rebound effort to lead UNI to a 76-53 victory over Valpo. The sophomore posted a 16-point, 10-rebound mark against the Ramblers on Saturday, to lead UNI to a dominating 64-39 road victory over Loyola.
Overall this season, the Epworth, Iowa native, is averaging 10.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest. Maahs has also climbed up the all-time leaderboard at UNI to rank third for both total rebounds (294) and defensive rebounds (208) in a single season.
