CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – University of Northern Iowa head softball coach Ryan Jacobs has announced the hiring of J.J. Reimer as an assistant coach for the Panthers.
"J.J. brings a lot of energy to the team," Jacobs said. "He is very knowledgeable about using new technology and analytics to improve development of the players. His passion and technical skills will help us move forward and compete for another MVC championship."
"My expectations for J.J. are consistent with the other coaches. We need to help the players have a better understanding of what to do and why to do it. J.J. will have an immediate impact on the players and is a great addition."
Prior to joining the Panthers, Reimer served as the head coach and hitting coach at the Dusty Rogers Baseball/Softball Academy in Dubuque, Iowa. He also served as the HitTrax and Analytics Coordinator. The 2018 season marks Reimer's first season of coaching at the collegiate level.
"Being a former college athlete, I know the grind of each season and the work that it takes to win championships," Reimer said. "Being on the other side of the fence as a coach, I am excited to help each player reach their highest potential as an athlete, as well as a student. With my background in exercise science, I can adapt new training styles for the players to help them reach their peak potential."
Reimer joins a Panther squad that captured a regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title and advanced to the MVC Tournament championship game in 2017.
"My goal, as it has always been, is to win championships. I want the team to grow every single day and continue the winning culture that UNI has built," Reimer said.
Â
A 2015 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, Reimer played two seasons of baseball for the Leathernecks in 2014 and 2015. He earned second-team all-Summit League honors as a junior and was an academic honor roll recipient as a senior.
Â
Reimer began his collegiate career at Ellsworth Community College, where he was an all-region and all-America selection. A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Reimer graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School in 2011. He was an elite all-state baseball player and was selected as the Dubuque Player of the Year.
