Koch, Pickford Earn MVC Accolades

The University of Northern Iowa's senior forward Bennett Koch and freshman guard Tywhon Pickford have each earned honors from the Missouri Valley Conference for their play in 2017-18.
Koch (Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin) tallied All-MVC Third Team honors. Koch leads the Panthers in scoring (12.7 ppg) and in blocked shots (24). He had 20 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 30 points in an overtime win over UNLV (Nov. 29). Koch also became the 42nd UNI player to reach 1,000 career points.Â
Pickford (Minneapolis, Minnesota) picked up a pair of MVC accolades by being named to the All-Freshman and All-Newcomer teams. Pickford ranks No. 2 in the MVC in rebounds (8.0 rpg). He has posted 11 double-figure rebounding games. Pickford is tied for the team lead in offensive rebounds (58). Pickford ranks No. 11 in the nation among all freshmen rebounders. He ranks No. 2 in the nation in rebounding among players shorter than 6'5".
UNI will begin play in the 2018 State Farm MVC Tournament Thursday against the Evansville Purple Aces. UNI and Evansville will tip at 6 p.m. in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center.
