Panthers Sit in Third Heading Into Final Day of MVC Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team is in third place after fourteen events at the Missouri Valley Conference championships.
Â
In the 400 IM, Katie Taylor broke her own MVC record, timing in at 4:16.87. Taylor's time resets the school record and is good for an NCAA B cut.

Crystal Florman took second-place in the 100 butterfly, timing in at 54.50.

"I just love competing at this event and thrive off the energy from my teammates," commented Florman.

Molly Lembezeder swam to a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle, setting a new school record of 1:49.71.
Â
Moriah Ross nabbed a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:03.97.
Â
The Panther relay team of Taylor, Ross, Florman and Lembezeder took second in the 400 medley relay, swimming a combined 3:42.39.

Madison Rinaldi swam to a top-8 finish in the 100 backstroke, swimming a flat time of 57 seconds.

"Crystal enjoys this type of competition and I don't think you will see anyone else smiling behind the blocks," remarked head coach Nick Lakin. "The goal is always to be on the podium and we've been able to accomplish that."

After competing in a swim-off for 100 breaststroke, Olivia Knowles timed in at 1:06.44 in the B final. Knowles had tied with Illinois State's Jillena Everest in the preliminary session this morning.

In the diving well, Mary Kate Ferlmann and Hannah Brummel competed in the 3-meter consolation finals. Ferlmann scored a 203.88, while Brummel earned a score of 199.74. Jayden Lovell will compete in the 3-meter finals tomorrow evening.

Kelsey Ostrowski competed in the B final of the 100 butterfly, swimming a 57.70.

Four Panthers competed in the B final of the 200 freestyle. Sophomore Kylie Engstrom led the Panthers in this final, timing in at 1:52.48. Rachel Siebenaller and Jordan McCullough timed in at 1:52.97. Maya Appleton rounded the Panthers out, swimming a 1:54.23.

Meredith Gorman competed in C final of the 200 freestyle, swimming a time of 1:56.10. Â

Olivia Crouse competed in the C final of the 400 IM, swimming a personal-best time of 4:39.85.

Abby Meyer competed in the C final of the 100 backstroke, swimming a 58.42.
Â
Action will resume at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning, beginning with preliminaries of the 200 backstroke.
