CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – For the third-straight week, the University of Northern Iowa track and field program claimed a Missouri Valley Conference weekly honor, as senior Sarah Pate was named the league's Female Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Fellow seniors Lauren Frederick and Brette Correy have each won a MVC Athlete of the Week honor in the past two weeks. The recognition for Pate is her first since winning the award on April 25, 2017.
The honor comes on the heels of earning a runner-up finish in the weight throw this past weekend, after a mark of 63-8.75 in the event. Pate's 63.8-75 at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota ranks as the 45th best mark in the nation and the third in the MVC. Pate's throw also ranks third all-time at UNI.
The Osceola, Iowa native, has dominated the weight throw this season, with two wins coming at the Panther Open and Jack Jennett Open this past January. Pate also placed fourth at the Mark Messersmith Invitational to go along with her runner-up showing at the SDSU Indoor Classic this past Saturday.

The Panthers have one final tune-up before hosting the MVC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25, as UNI competes at the Wisconsin Invite on Friday, Feb. 16.
