
Thomas Named MVC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS – UNI middle hitter Piper Thomas was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after leading the Panthers in kills in the teams' three victories over Indiana State, Loyola and Valparaiso last week.
Thomas recorded 50 kills and just nine errors on the week, averaging 5.0 kills per set. The senior from Jesup, Iowa, recorded three straight matches with an attack percentage over .400, notching a .456 attack percentage on the week.
Against Indiana State Thomas had 13 kills on 25 attempts with just three errors for a .400 attack percentage. Against Loyola she notched 18 kills and a .483 attack percentage and against Valparaiso, Thomas had a season-high 19 kills while only recording two errors for a .472 attack percentage. Along with her offensive abilities Thomas showed what she can do defensively, recoding six blocks against Valparaiso.
The Panthers are now 4-0 in conference play, Thomas is currently tied for first in the MVC in attack percentage (.478) kills per set (5.08) and stands alone in points per set (5.46) in conference matches.
The Panther volleyball team will be back in action on Friday, October 5 when they host the Redbirds of Illinois State in the McCloud Center at 7:00 PM and then again on Saturday, hosting the Braves of Bradley University at 7:00 PM.
