Evansville Edges Out UNI, 57-49

EVANSVILLE, Indiana - The University of Evansville Purple Aces came back from a six-point second-half deficit and scored a 57-49 win over the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team on Wednesday at the Ford Center.
Evansville (15-9 overall, 5-6 MVC) got 25 points from the league's leading scorer Ryan Taylor. Blake Simmons posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Purple Aces.
UNI (11-12 overall, 3-8 MVC) saw senior Bennett Koch post a team-high 19 points. Koch was 5-of-8 from the field and 9-of-14 from the free throw line.
Evansville led 20-9 with 6:44 left in the first half, but the Panthers would close the half on a 12-1 run to even the contest at the break, 21-21.
UNI would open up a 28-22 lead following a conventional three-point play from Koch with 16:28 left in the game. The Koch bucket and free throw completed a 19-2 run for the Panthers.
Evansville answered back with a 17-6 run that gave the Purple Aces a 39-34 lead with 10:19 remaining in the contest. UNI pulled back to within 42-39 after another Koch bucket. But the Purple Aces would push the lead to 11 at 53-42 following an 11-3 spurt.
UNI will return home to take on the Indiana State Sycamores on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
