Hook Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Liam Priestley of Missouri State and Heather Hook of UNI have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of Sept. 11-17.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.
Liam Priestley, Missouri State, Sr., Soccer, Finance, 3.52 GPA
Priestley recorded his third shutout of the year against Oral Roberts Saturday night. The senior keeper tallied five saves against ORU and kept the Golden Eagles scoreless. The visitors got off nine shots with none finding the back of the net. In the MVC opener against Central Arkansas, Priestley recorded four saves in the double overtime victory. He gave up one goal in the first half, but kept UCA scoreless the rest of the game to give the Bears a league road win. Priestley has only allowed four goals all season though six matches and currently paces the MVC in goals against average (.624) and save percentage (.862).
Heather Hook, UNI, Sr., Volleyball, Finance, Economics & Real Estate, 3.36 GPA
Hook was named the co-MVP of the Omaha Challenge after leading the Panthers to a 2-1 mark in the tournament, including a 3-1 victory over No. 10 Nebraska. Hook began the week by helping UNI to a 3-2 win over No. 19 Iowa State in Ames, contributing 43 assists and eight digs in the win over the Cyclones. The senior setter posted 42 assists, 10 digs and four kills (.333 hitting percentage) in a 3-1 win over Omaha to begin the Omaha Challenge. Hook keyed the Panther win over the No. 10 Cornhuskers by securing 40 assists, seven digs and seven kills (.636 hitting percentage). The victory for UNI was the first ever over Nebraska. Hook completed her week of action with 58 assists, 18 digs and four kills in a five-set thriller vs. Kansas State. For the week, Hook averaged 10.17 assists per set and 2.39 digs per set while adding 16 kills and a .268 hitting percentage. Hook is the lone senior on the Panther volleyball squad that is 10-4 and ranked No. 22 in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll.
