Des Moines, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team continued the second day of the Drake Invitational, with two players advancing to championship matches tomorrow.
In singles action, Valentina Caro will play in the championship match of the D Flight. Caro defeated Masha Lobanova of North Dakota, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Melania Jaglarz of Drake, 6-4, 3-6, 13-11. Caro will face Chemodanova of South Dakota tomorrow morning.
Reghan Lynch advanced in the consolation bracket of the A Flight, defeating Nebraska-Omaha's Michelle Walker, 2, 0. Lynch will face Thisuri Molligoda of Northern Illinois tomorrow morning.
Kate Merrick advanced in the consolation bracket of the C Flight, notching a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 victory over Michelle Erasmus of Northern Illinois. Merrick will meet Emily Behling of Nebraska-Omaha tomorrow morning.
Gisela Kemper went the distance with Nebraska-Omaha's Janelle Wilson, falling 6-0, 4-6, 12-10.
In the B Flight, Harri Proudfoot was defeated by Brodie Walker of Northern Illinois, 1, 3. Eve Small fell to Luana Stanciu of South Dakota 6(3), 2.
Savanna Hunt fell in the C Flight to Taylor Jackson of Augustana (SD), 0, 4.
In doubles action, all three of the Panther teams fell in action. The duo of Lynch/Merrick were defeated by Sullivan/Yasunaga of North Dakota, 8-4. Lazarevic/Nylund of South Dakota would be triumphant over Hunt/Caro, 8-3. The duo of Proudfoot/Small fell to Walker/Behling of Nebraska-Omaha, 8-4.
