CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's cross country teams will continue the regular-season slate this Saturday, when the Panthers compete at the Wisconsin Mayflower Day Open in Madison, Wis.
The event will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin and will feature UNI, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Parkside and the host Badgers. The women (6K) will race at 10 a.m. CT, while the men (8K) will start soon after at 10:30 a.m. CT.
"We're excited to get back out on the course this Saturday," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "We will have a few new people running this week, so we are looking forward to seeing how they do. This will be a great opportunity for our runners to execute a solid race plan and see how they perform together."
The race will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, which features an exterior loop of approximately 2,500 meters and an interior loop of 1,000 meters. Both loops cover the area's rolling hills and valleys, while the outside loop also runs through a section of dense woods.
For the women, the Panthers will send Gabby Champion, Tiffany Christensen, McKayla Cole, Brette Correy, Kelsey Leedy, Ashley Norem, Maddie Reynolds, Lyndsie Schinkel, Gabby Skopec, Hannah Truniger and Alyssa Williams. This Saturday's race will be the first competition of the season for Cole, Correy and 2016 MVC Freshman of the Year, sophomore Truniger.
On the men's side, UNI will race Ben Ahlrichs, Alex Jackson, Luke Johnston, CJ May, Logan Murray, Mitch Pritts, Ethan Smith, Bo Hjelle and Dillon Timmerman. The race in Madison will be the first action of the season for Jackson and Johnston.
