Farley Named MVFC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After an impressive performance against Cal Poly in Saturday's home opener, senior linebacker Jared Farley was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.

The honor is Farley's second as a Panther, after earning the distinction last season following UNI's 25-20 win over Iowa State. Farley is the first player since Karter Schult (2016) to win the weekly award multiple times. Farley shares the honor with North Dakota State's Robbie Grimsley.

With Saturday's game tied at 7-7 in the second quarter, Farley scooped up a fumble and took it 48 yards for the go-ahead score. The touchdown return was Farley's first of his career, while the fumble recovery was his fifth at UNI.

Farley finished the game with 11 total tackles, with four solos and seven assists. The Cedar Falls native also recorded one tackle for a loss. This season, Farley leads the Panthers with 25 total tackles.

Led by Farley, the UNI defense has earned at least one turnover in the last 11 games. The Panthers have earned two fumble recoveries (Jared Farley, Elijah Campbell) and one interception (Duncan Ferch) so far this season.
