Seven Panthers Earn Preseason All-MVFC Recognition

The University of Northern Iowa is represented by seven members on the 2017 Missouri Valley Football Conference's preseason squad as announced by the league office on Monday.
Senior defensive back Malcolm Washington (Houston, Texas) and senior linebacker Jared Farley (Cedar Falls, Iowa) were each named to the first team heading into the 2017 season.
Washington led the Panthers last season with four interceptions, including a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 42-21 win over Southern Illinois on Oct. 1. Washington registered 28 tackles and six pass breakups in 2016. Washington earned second-team all-MVFCÂ honors at the conclusion of the 2016 campaign.
Farley garnered a team-high 80 tackles in 2016 and was named to the all-MVFC second team. Farley also tallied 3.5 tackles-for-loss, two fumble recoveries and a quarterback sack.
The Panthers posted a league-high five members on the honorable mention preseason all-MVFCÂ team. Sophomore running back Trevor Allen (Waukee, Iowa), junior offensive lineman Cal Twait (Manson, Iowa), senior defensive back Elijah Campbell (St. Paul, Minnesota), senior punter Sam Kuhter (Toledo, Iowa) and sophomore return specialist Jalen Rima (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) were all named as honorable mention selections to the preseason squad.
UNI players will report to camp on Wednesday for preseason training. The Panthers will open the 2017 season Sept. 2 at Iowa State at 7 p.m.
