LINCOLN, Neb. – UNI wrestling's Carter Isley (KAR-ter EYES-lee) grabbed two wins in the 120-kilogram freestyle division at the Junior World Team Trials before being edged out in the finals of the challenge tournament.
Â
Isley was edged out 3-1 by Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club's Jordan Wood, who represented the U.S. at the UWW Junior World Championships in France September 2016. Wood redshirted his first year of college at Lehigh.
Â
Isley will return to UNI as a redshirt freshman. With 10 falls this season, Isley was the pin leader for the Panthers in 2016-17. He won two open tournaments competing unattached in the heavyweight division. As a prep wrestler, he was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation among high school heavyweights. He won two consecutive state titles at the Iowa tournament for Albia High School.
Â
Two more competitors with ties to UNI wrestling will compete tomorrow in the senior division of the World Team Trials. Former All-American Joe Colon and Blaize Cabell will wrestle in the senior division.
Â
Winners from each weight class in the senior division will go on to compete for Team USA in the World Wrestling Championships set in Paris, France, Aug. 21-26. Â
