Buchanan, Bunch Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

A pair of University of Northern Iowa softball players have earned all-region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Senior pitcher Alyssa Buchanan has been named to the first-team all-Central region squad as a utility/pitcher. Freshman shortstop Sammey Bunch has been named a third-team all-Central region pick.
It marks the first time since 1994 that the Panthers have had two players earn all-region honors in the same season. Buchanan becomes the eighth UNI Panther to tally first-team all-region honors.
Buchanan (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern HS) went 14-2 with a 1.43 earned run average. She limited the opposition to a .194 batting average and was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Year. Buchanan pitched 132 1/3 innings and struck out 102 batters, while allowing 41 runs (27 earned).
Bunch (Bonnots Mill, Missouri/Fatima HS) led the Panthers in runs (41), doubles (12), triples (7) and stolen bases (11), while being named the Missouri Valley Conference's Freshman of the Year. Bunch batted .325 with seven home runs and 32 RBI.
