
Records Fall At Musco Twilight

FINAL RESULTS
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program placed high at the Musco Invitational today, coming away with multiple wins and three school records.
Brandon Carnes started the day by shattering his own UNI and Missouri Valley Conference records in the 100 meter dash, running a time of 10.06. It set a new facility record and ranks him first in the NCAA West region and fifth overall in the country heading into the weekend.
He followed it up with an outstanding performance in the 200 meters, running a new personal-best time of 20.50 to capture the outdoor 200 meter record at UNI. His time set a meet record and ranked him sixth in the NCAA West and in the top-15 in the NCAA.
Following the winning ways, the Panthers had a pair of young athletes earn top performances on the women's side. Rose Gamamou earned a personal-best time of 12.46 in the women's 100 meters followed by Kayla Lawrence with a PR time of 12.54.
The dynamic duo of Lindsey Kite and Lyndsie Schinkel continued to shine in the 800 meters, both scoring PRs. Kite finished in second with a time of 2:09.77 while Schinkel notched a personal-best for the second meet in a row with a time of 2:10.18.
Bo Hjelle competed in the men's 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:53.90 with freshman Hunter Lavaellee also finishing with a PR of 1:54.05.
In the hurdles, Cade Kirkpatrick won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.95, recording a personal-best on the day. Jacob Smith continued improving his time in the 400 meter hurdles, grabbing another PR time of 51.68 to rank him first in the Valley and 21st in the NCAA West.
C.J. May posted one of UNI's final wins of the day on the track, coming away victorious in the 3,000 meters steeplechase. In his first collegiate attempt at the event, the true freshman finished with a strong time of 9:22.84.
Sarah Pate recorded UNI's third school record of the day, throwing a personal-best mark of 203-06 in the hammer throw. The mark is second in the Valley and 26th in the NCAA West, beating the previous UNI record of 203-04 set by Rachel Jansen in 2008.
Charles Brown rounded out the UNI field events with a personal-best in the triple jump. He finished in second overall with a mark of 48-8.00, ranking him second in the MVC and in the top-50 in the NCAA West.
The Panthers wrapped up action at the meet with a win in the women's 4X400 meters. Jasmine Blue, Maddie Bell, Maddie Irmen and Kite finished with a season-best time of 3:44.95 for the win.
UNI track and field returns to action next week when they take part in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The meet is set to run April 26-29.
