CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Members of the UNI men's golf team head to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship after posting their best scores of the season.

The two-day championship is set in Lemont, Illinois starting Monday.
The Panthers were seeded seventh in the pre-championship poll of the league's head coaches. The tournament will be played at Cog Hill #4, and will be hosted by Loyola. Last year at the MVC Championship, the Panthers finished eighth. In the 2014-15 season, the men's golf team finished tied for second at the conference championship, which was their best finish since 2002.
Senior Dustin Atkinson is ranked No. 21 in the conference and averaging a team-best 75.08 throughout the 2016-17 season. Atkinson is coming off his best tournament this spring, he finished tied for ninth at the Tiger Invitational in Missouri with scores of 69-74-74, for a total of 217 (+1) on April 10-11. In last year's conference championship, Atkinson finished 30th with round scores of 79-72-80--231 (+15).
Redshirt sophomore Marshal Lamb also looks to continue from his best effort of the spring season. At the Tiger Invitational, he shot 78-75-73--226 and landed in a tie for 27th. This season, he has averaged a score of 77.00 while being ranked No. 36 in the conference entering the MVC Championship.
Sophomore Davis Sutton looks to finish off his success from the 2016-17 season while averaging 75.79 per round in eight events. In the conference rankings, he is ranked No. 29. In his best action this spring, he finished tied for 34th and had day totals of 78-73-75, for a total of 226 (+13) at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate.
Junior Sam DeBartolo is ranked No. 32 in the conference has had a great season and looks forward to repeating his efforts from the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate and the Red Wolf Intercollegiate. He led the team and tied for fifth in the Twin Oaks event and tied for 16th at the Red Wolf Intercollegiate. The performances allowed him to have the team's second-best average on the year with 75.75.
Senior David Spengler is going to come into the conference championship ranked No. 44 with an average score of 78.33. In Spengler's best action this spring, he tied for 16th in the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate on March 20-21. He came into the second day tied for ninth and had a season-best second-round score of 71. His final round scores were 74-71-76, totaling 221 (+8).
The weather forecast for the conference championship does have a chance for rain Tuesday afternoon after 1 p.m. with a high near 70. However, Monday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 70.
