ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior Madison Weekly and sophomore Ellie Herzberg have been named to the 2017 All-Missouri Valley Conference first-team, with Megan Maahs notching a selection to the All-Freshman team, it was announced today.
Weekly has earned a first-team nod three seasons in a row, becoming the fourth player in UNI history to get three first-team selections, joining Jacqui Kalin (2010, 2011, 2013), Alex Cook (2003, 2004, 2005), Amy Swisher (2002, 2003, 2004) and Allison Starr (1998, 1999, 2000). Ellie Herzberg is getting her first all-conference honor after being named to the All-Freshman team in 2015.
Maahs, who has started the last 21 games of the regular season as a true freshman, was named to the All-Freshman squad. She is the first Panther to receive the recognition since Herzberg in 2015 and is the eighth Panther in program history to earn a spot on the team.
Weekly leads the Panthers in points this season with 15.3 per game, starting all 29 games. Weekly is one of UNI's most decorated guards, landing in the top-10 all-time at UNI in 12 different statistical categories. She is also ranked in the top-10 in the Valley this season in scoring, assists, free throw percentage, three-point field goals made, assist/turnover ratio and minutes played.
Herzberg has led the Panther bench, averaging 11.7 points per game overall and 13.1 points per game in conference play. In MVC play only, Herzberg ranks in the top-10 in scoring and steals, also leading UNI in steals with 45. She has scored in double-digits in 15 games, including a career-high 27 points against top-25 ranked Drake in January.
Maahs, an Epworth, Iowa, native, is averaging 7.1 points and 6.2 rebounds through 29 games this season. She ranks first on the team in blocks with 21 and is third in the Valley in offensive rebounds with 78, proving her athleticism on both ends of the court is troublesome for opponents.
