CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Seven Panthers secured a spot at the NCAA championships, and the team walked away with a second-place finish at the MAC wrestling championships.
Â
Taylor Lujan was the only Panther to win a title. He also earned his first bid to the NCAA tournament. The Panthers seven qualifiers are the most UNI has sent to the national tournament since 2014 when the team took 15th place overall.
Â
"We have seven guys heading to nationals, and they're going to be ready to score a bunch of points in the national tournament," said head coach Doug Schwab. "I know the last session didn't end as well as we wanted it to, but it wasn't because guys didn't compete their tails off. I think every single guy competed their tail off up and down the line up. I love how our guys competed. I'm proud of every single guy on our team and look forward to nationals in two weeks."
