UNI Softball Wraps Up Louisville Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Northern Iowa softball team wrapped up the Louisville tournament on Sunday after facing off against Ohio University Bobcats and Louisville Cardinals.
UNI (12-10) started Sunday morning against Ohio University (13-6). Starting pitcher Alyssa Buchanan pitched a shutout against the Bobcats in a 2-0 victory for the Panthers.
The only two runs in the game came in the top of the fourth. Macey Wolfe led off the inning by getting hit with a pitch and then advancing to second base on a wild pitch. Kennedy Bailey also landed on base after a fielding error from the Bobcats third baseman. Right after, Tianna Drahn came in as a pinch runner for Bailey and stole second base. Anna Varriano hit a single into center field and brought in both Wolfe and Drahn for UNI's 2-0 win.
The Panthers ended the day against tournament host, Louisville (15-7).
The first four innings were difficult for the Panthers as they were unable to score any runs. However, Louisville scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, two additional runs in the bottom of the second, and three runs in the bottom of the third to give them a
7-0.
UNI started the top of the fifth strong after Brittney Krodinger hit a double into left field with bases loaded, to bring in Jaci Spencer and Anna Varriano. Britney Roby followed up Brittnery Krodinger as she grounded out to the shortstop but brought home Courtney Krodinger. Next at ba was Wolfe, who singled up the middle and brought in Brittney Krodinger to cut the Cardinals lead 7-4.
The Cardinals were able to score one additional run in the bottom of the fifth to stretch their lead 8-4.
In the top of the sixth, the Panthers were only able to bring in one Panther after Spencer hit a single up the middle to bring in Sammey Bunch.
The scoring would end there for both teams and give the Cardinals a 8-5 victory over the Panthers.
UNI will be on the road again this weekend as they kick off conference play against Missouri State, March 18-19 in Springfield, Missouri.
