CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa's women's swimming and diving team is set to begin competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, Feb. 15-18 in Iowa City.

Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Campus Wellness and Recreation Center.

The Panthers serve as tournament hosts for the first time in program history.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased through the UNI Ticket Office.

Season Recap

The Panthers finished the season at 7-3 and had impressive performances along the way.

Molly Lembezeder shattered her 50 freestyle record from last season, swimming a 23.39 at the Kansas Classic in November. Lembezeder also would swim a 50.88 in the 100 freestyle, creating a new school record in the process.

Freshman Katie Taylor had an impressive freshman season, swimming into the record books in four events. Taylor swam a time of 55.82 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:01.25 in the 200 backstroke at the Kansas Classic. Taylor would also reset the 400 IM record at that meet, timing in at 4:25.33. The 200 IM record would break at the UNO Invite in December, with Taylor swimming a 2:04.33. Taylor also earned MVC Swimmer of the Week honors twice this season.

Veronica Herrmann kept pace with her times from last year, swimming in just seconds shy of many records set by her last season.

Crystal Florman and Madison Rinaldi each continued to make strides in their respective events as they entered their sophomore seasons with the team.

Alyssa Deuso and Hannah Brummel continued to grow stronger on the diving boards. Deuso reset her personal best on the 1-meter boards, diving a 244.79. Deuso would also dive a 237.38 on 3-meter. Brummel had season best dives in the 1-meter at 234 and on 3-meter at 240.67.

Last Season at Championships

The 2015-16 finish at conference championships was the highest finish by a Panther team in recent years. Some highlights from last year's tournament include a new MVC record being set by Florman, Aftin Phyfe, Autumn Roepsch and Lembezeder in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:23.56.

Herrmann received B-Cuts in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at conference. Herrmann's B-Cuts were the first in school history.

Rinaldi won the consolation final of the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.26.

Phyfe broke her school record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.12, coming in third.

Rinaldi, Phyfe, Herrmann and Florman broke the 400 Medley Relay school record by six seconds for a second place finishing time of 3:44.83.

Lembezeder shattered her 200 Freestyle record, with a final time of 1:51.42 for fourth.

Brummel won both rounds of the consolation rounds in diving. Deuso would take seventh in the 3-meter competition.

UNI coaches, Doug Humphrey and Lori Meierbachtol, earned Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year awards. All seven of the Panther's 1st-Team All-Conference Selections are set to return to the pool.
