Panthers Cruise by the Grizzlies

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa--The University of Northern Iowa's softball team (2-1) cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Montana Grizzlies (1-2) at the UNI-Dome Classic this afternoon.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a home run from Alyssa Buchanan. Buchanan's home run brought in Sammey Bunch to score.

The second inning would be scoreless for both teams.

In the third, Montana would tie the game up with Sydney Stites and MaKenna McGill rounding the bases.

The Panthers regained the lead in the fourth off a home run from senior Anna Varriano. Varriano's home run brought Bailey Lange home as well.

Brittney Roby started a 6-0 run by the Panthers in the fifth. Bunch would reach first on a walk, with Buchanan following after being hit by the pitch.

Varriano ended the game with a grand slam in the fifth. Macey Wolfe and Lange would score runs from Varriano's home run. The game would end after Varriano's grand slam, due to the Panthers having an eight-run lead over the Grizzlies in the fifth.

The Panthers will play again tonight at 9 p.m. against South Dakota State. They will close out the UNI-Dome Classic on Sunday against Nebraska-Omaha at 2:45 p.m.
