CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After scoring a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team past Kansas State, senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The honor for Kirkpatrick is the first of her career, while the MVC POW award is UNI's first since Madison Weekly earned the distinction after the Panthers downed No. 24 KSU at home last season.
Against the Wildcats this season, Kirkpatrick scored a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead the Panthers to a road win over the Power-5 foe, 72-71. The senior also made a career-high seven 3-pointers, which was only one shy of tying the school record for a game.
Kirkpatrick scored the go-ahead basket with 2:11 remaining in the game, before adding seven points in the final two minutes to lead the Panthers to victory. The senior guard also added five assists and two rebounds.
Overall this season, Kirkpatrick leads UNI in scoring after averaging 12.7 points per game. The Lawrence, Kansas native has scored in double-figures seven times this season as well.
Additionally, Kirkpatrick was also named the College Sports Madness MVC Player of the Week by the publication on Tuesday.
