PHIL STEELE ALL-AMERICANS
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Panthers Elijah Campbell, Jared Farley and Daurice Fountain were named to Phil Steele's FCS All-American teams on Friday, adding another round of postseason honors for the Northern Iowa football program.
Campbell and Farley earned second team honors, while Fountain was selected to the fourth team. Friday's news marks the first time since 2011 (L.J. Fort, Ben Boothby, Tyler Sieversten) that UNI has earned All-American honors from Phil Steele.
For Campbell and Farley, the honors are the third All-American distinctions this season for the pair, with the duo collecting AP and College Sports Madness laurels earlier this week. For Fountain, the All-American honor is his first as a Panther.
Campbell earned 51 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and 12 pass breakups in 2017. The 12 pass breakups are tied for ninth-most in a season at UNI. Earlier this season, the senior earned All-MVFC First Team honors. For his career at UNI, Campbell earned 93 tackles, while picking off eight passes and taking two for touchdowns.
Farley earned a team-high 122 tackles this past season, while scooping up two fumbles with one going the distance for a touchdown. Farley became the first Div. I linebacker since 1996 to score a touchdown on defense, receiving and rushing in one season.
Farley collected All-MVFC First Team honors earlier this season, while also earning MVFC All-Academic Team Honorable Mention. For his storied career, Farley earned 313 total tackles, which ranks eighth-most all-time at UNI.
Fountain earned 66 catches this past season, racking up 943 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 66 receptions rank as the ninth-most in as season at UNI, while the 12 touchdowns are slotted fifth-most in a season.
Earlier this season, Fountain earned All-MVFC First Team honors. For his career, Fountain ranks in the Top 10 for catches (150), yards (2,077) and touchdowns (23), becoming just the sixth player ever at UNI to achieve all three feats.
