CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball head coach Tanya Warren announced the signing of three newcomers to the 2018-19 roster on Wednesday, adding a trio of homegrown stars to the Panther family.
Kiana Barney, Kam Finley and Cynthia Wolf will all make the short trip from Cedar Falls High School to UNI next fall with the three signees changing their Tiger stripes to a Panther coat.
"What a great day for our women's basketball program," Warren said. "We are so excited about these three young women joining our Panther family. They are a perfect fit for what we are looking for on and off the court."
Besides being teammates at Cedar Falls HS this season, the trio has also grown up playing together on the Iowa Barnstormer AAU team. Barney and Wolf have each been three-year contributors at Cedar Falls, while Finley joined the duo this past season after transferring from Linn-Mar.
"I love the fact that they are all high school teammates," Warren said. "For them to be right in our own backyard is so exciting for everyone in Cedar Falls. I know Panther fans will enjoy watching them in purple and gold."
The pair of Barney and Wolf will give UNI depth at the forward position, with each player standing over six feet tall. Barney measures 6-foot-1, while Wolf towers at 6-foot-3. Barney totaled 13.3 points and 5.1 boards a game as a junior, with Wolf adding 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.
The two future Panthers led Cedar Falls HS to a runner-up finish at the Iowa state tournament last season, after earning an impressive 23-2 record in 2016-17. In 2015-16, the Cedar Falls squad ran the tables all the way to the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Ankeny Centennial.
Finley, a 5-foot-9 guard from Marion, Iowa, averaged 14.8 points per game as a junior at Linn-Mar before transferring to Cedar Falls this season. Finley made 36 three-pointers while snagging 29 steals as a junior. Finley averaged 12.2 points per game in her sophomore season at Linn-Mar.
