Brookins, Weston Named to All-MVFC Newcomer Team

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. – Isaiah Weston and Keelon Brookins were recognized for their impacts on the Northern Iowa football team this season, after the pair were named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference's All-Newcomer team on Tuesday.
A transfer from Wisconsin and originally slated as a defensive back, redshirt senior Brookins made the move to linebacker for UNI and started in the final seven games for the Panthers. The St. Paul, Minn., native has earned 28 total tackles this season, while also tallying three sacks, four pass breakups and two interceptions.
Brookins' interception return for a touchdown against No. 6 South Dakota shifted momentum late for the Panthers, as the senior was named the MVFC Defensive and Newcomer of the Week following his efforts against the Coyotes.
This season, true freshman Weston has hauled in five touchdowns and 380 yards at wide receiver to rank second and third on the team in both categories. Weston has played in all 12 games for UNI this season, while catching 22 passes.
Weston's stellar game against No. 6 USD vaulted the Panthers over the Coyotes as the freshman scored two touchdowns to torch the secondary. Weston earned a career-high 72 yards receiving against FBS-foe Iowa State to begin the season.

UP NEXT
UNI takes on South Dakota State in the second round of the FCS Playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. CT. The matchup will be the second this season for the two squads, as UNI took the Oct. 14 contest 38-18 in Brookings.
