Panther Family,
Thank you for your support throughout the fall sports season. We have had some tremendous successes and we look forward to carrying it over as we embark on the winter sports.
The Panther football team has positioned itself to be squarely in playoff consideration by picking up a pair of top-10 wins in the rugged Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Our women's soccer team set a school record for wins this season and will be playing with a shot to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Panther volleyball squad has put itself in position to gain its 21st berth in NCAA competition as they locked up their 35th 20-win season for the program. The women's cross country team captured runner-up honors at the 2017 MVC championship meet.
As you can see, we have hit the ground running this fall and we are certainly looking forward to the upcoming highlights of the winter.
It is an extremely exciting time for UNI wrestling as we are embarking on our first season as an affiliate member of the Big 12 Conference. Our swimming and diving squad is off to a fine start this season and we will again serve as the host of the MVC championship meet Feb. 14-17 in Iowa City.
Both of our basketball teams will tip off their home exhibition games this Sunday in the McLeod Center. The men will welcome back former head coach Eldon Miller when they take on UNC-Pembroke at 1 p.m., followed by a women's exhibition vs. Sioux Falls at 4 p.m.
The return of basketball coach Eldon Miller this upcoming weekend will help us begin to honor our legendary coaches that have helped shaped UNI athletics. We have a couple of special events planned for the home volleyball match on Friday when we recognize the efforts of Iradge Ahrabi-Fard, followed up by Sunday's festivities with Coach Miller. We think it is a very special recognition for each of them and would encourage you to attend our events this weekend.
We also have plans in place to change our Panther Kids Club program – stay tuned to UNI Athletics for some developments that will encourage our fans with children to join so we can continue to grow Panther athletics.
We look forward to hearing your feedback as you take in our sporting events throughout the year. If you have ideas or just want to pass along your thoughts about how your experience was at an event, please email me at uniad@uni.edu.
Go Panthers!
