Normal, Illinois—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team competed at the second day of the MVC Individual Championships today.
The Panther duo of Kate Merrick and Savanna Hunt defeated Evansville's Kapelevich/Helpingstine in the flight 3 doubles today, 8-4. They will play for fifth place against Pereira/Pascual/Larrinaga of Evansville.
In flight 6 singles, Hunt took sixth place, falling to Fati Khamissi of Missouri State, 6-0, 6-0.
In the flight 1 singles, Gisela Kemper fell to Tess Herder of Drake, 6-1, 6-0.
Reghan Lynch fell to Chieko Yamada of Evansville, 6-3, 6-3.
In singles action, Merrick went the distance with Bradley's Alexa Brandt, falling 5-7, 7-5 (10-5).
Valerija Gercar of Illinois State defeated Valentina Caro, 6-4, 6-2.
Harri Proudfoot fell to Bradley's Malini Wijesinghe, 6-2, 6-3.
In flight 1 doubles, the Panther duo of Kemper and Lynch were defeated by Darter and Burger of Missouri State, 8-7 (7-4). Proudfoot/Caro fell to Sysouvan/Czerwonka of Valparaiso, 8-6 in the second flight of doubles.
