Normal, Illinois—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team competed at day 1 of the MVC Individual Championships today.
In the Flight 1 singles, Gisela Kemper fell to Elizabeth Tsvetkov of Stony Brook, 6-1, 6-2. Kemper will face Tess Herder of Drake in the next round.
Reghan Lynch went the distance with Jelena Vujicic, 6-7 (7-3), 6-2, 6-4. Lynch will meet Chieko Yamada of Evansville tomorrow.
Maria Ribeiro of Stony Brook posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kate Merrick. Merrick will meet Alexa Brandt of Bradley.
Valentina Caro fell to Nicoli Pereira of Evansville in the fifth flight of singles, 6-3, 7-5. Caro will meet Valerija Gercar of Illinois State.
Harri Proudfoot fell to Ivon Mihaleva of Illinois State 6-2, 6-4. Bradley's Malini Wijesinghe will meet Proudfoot in competition tomorrow.
In flight 6, Savanna Hunt fell to Theodora Soldatou of Evansville 6-0, 6-2 . Hunt receives a bye in the next round.
In flight 1 doubles, the Panther duo of Kemper and Lynch fell to Soldatou/Yamada of Evansville 8-4. The duo will meet Darter/Burger of Missouri State in the next round. Proudfoot/Caro fell to Drake's Williams and Petushkova, 8-0. They will play Sysouvan/Czerwonka of Valparaiso. The Panther duo of Merrick/Hunt fell to Carrion/Pam of Stony Brook in the flight 3 doubles, 8-2. They will meet Evansville's Kapelevich/Helpingstine.
