UNI Names Student-Athletes of Month for October

The University of Northern Iowa department of athletics has announced its October 2017 Student-Athletes of the Month sponsored by Transamerica as voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).This months' honorees are Sarah Brandt (Ankeny, Iowa), Piper Thomas (Jesup, Iowa), Sam DeBartolo (Johnston, Iowa) and Daurice Fountain (Madison, Wisconsin).
Sarah Brandt - Soccer
Brandt scored four goals, including a pair of game-winners, to help lead the Panthers to a mark of 6-1-1 in eight matches in the month of September. Brandt scored the only goal in the 78th minute of a 1-0 victory over North Dakota State on Sept. 1. Brandt added two goals, including the game-winner with 30 seconds left in a 3-2 road triumph at Northern Illinois on Sept. 15. Brandt scored her final goal of September in a 1-1 tie vs. North Dakota (Sept. 17). Brandt assisted on two goals in a 3-1 win over Evansville on Sept. 30.
Piper Thomas - Volleyball
Thomas posted a team-best .299 attack percentage to go along with a team-high 52 blocks in the month of September. Thomas was honored as the MVC Player of the Week on Sept. 25. Thomas had double-figure kill totals in 13 of the 15 matches in the month. Thomas began the month with 20 kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over No. 18 USC. She added 17 kills and five blocks in a 3-2 win over No. 19 Iowa State. Thomas was brilliant against No. 10 Nebraska as she recorded 11 kills and four solo blocks. Thomas added a career-high 23 kills in a 3-1 win at Valparaiso.
Sam DeBartolo - Men's Golf
DeBartolo captured medalist honors at the season-opening Nebraska-Omaha Invitational. DeBartolo fired rounds of 68-70-71 to win the title and also earn Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors. DeBartolo posted a team-best 73.33 scoring average over nine rounds in the month of September.
Daurice Fountain - Football
Fountain leads the Panthers in receptions (23), receiving yards (349) and receiving touchdowns (4). Fountain tallied three touchdown receptions against Cal Poly, including the game-winner in overtime on a 13-yard pass from Eli Dunne. Fountain recorded eight receptions for 138 yards at Southern Utah. Fountain then secured seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in helping UNI to a 24-17 win at Southern Illinois.
